EMI

EMI also known as EMI Music is a multinational music company and it's headquarters situated in the heart of London, UK. It is amongst one of the four biggest major record labels in the music industry around the world. EMI is a member of the RIAA and IFPI.

EMI was formed in March 1931 by the merger that also formed 'His Master's Voice' (HMV)
Successful artists and bands within EMI were, Kate Bush, Duran Duran, Iron Maiden and Blur.
Iron Maiden are a London five-piece band and are still recording with EMI even after 20 years.

Though EMI are a successful major recording label, they have had their ups and downs for example, they were forced to sell Columbia USA due to anti-trust issues taken by its American competitors.
EMI released its first LPs in 1952 and its first stereophonic recodings in 1955

Over the years EMI was located in many places, first starting off at Abbey Road, London then moving to such places like Manchester Square, London where the album 'Please Please Me' by The Beatles was recorded.

EMI was acquired by Terra Firma Capital Partners in 2007 after a dramatic decline in the British market share which went from 16% to 9%to 7%. The estimate that EMI had lost was around £260 million.

EMI also has several labels under them such as, Blue Note Label Group and Virgin Music Group.

It was announced on October 31st 2011 that Warner Music Group has yet attempted to acquire EMI's business.
